The Crooner
The Crooner are:
Zissimos (The Crooner)-vocals, guitars, keyboards, samples.
Miss Honeybeetle- backing vocals.
Natasha-backing vocals.
Makis Petratos (Makis P.)-bass, synthesizers, sampling, programming.
In the early nineties, Zissimos (also founding member of One Night Suzan ) started giving solo acoustic shows in Athens assisted by Makis P. (who was then a member of Next Time Passions). The first fruit of this collaboration was the release of 7’’ vinyl “Songs from the Valley of Love” in 1994 on Greek This Happy Feeling label (feel 04).
It didn’t take long for their warm, bossa-nova drenched pop melodies to gain greater attention from outside Greece and they soon started to get featured on numerous compilations such as Tweenet’s “Seven Summers” with A Warm Day In June (1998), Shelflife’s Whirl-Wheels with Alberto Caerio (1996) and “You Make Me Smile” with Dew Goddess (1999).
Their major breakthrough came with the release of the 8track cd “Heaven Airlines” on Shelflife records in 1998. Heaven Airlines appeared as a Japanese release with 5 extra tracks on JVC/Victor Entertainment Japan.
The Crooner have since then been incorporating lots of electronic elements and female vocals to their sound. Their last release to date is the cd “Soft Escape on Greek Pop Art records. Try A Little Sunshine contains “A Summer With Jane”, taken from their This Happy Feeling 7”.
Rumor has it that Zissimos does not like bossa nova anymore.
